TOMMY BAHAMA WINS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

Nemschoff Sports / Tommy Bahama Offshore scored a major victory at the APBA/UIM World Championship event in Orange Beach, AL today.  Today’s win, coupled with their 3rd place finish in the preliminary race last Wednesday, brought the Team a much-deserved 2nd place in the final World Championship standings in Super Cat class.  Bacardi Silver had a win in race 1 and finished 2nd today to give them the overall championship, with Rum Jumbie finishing a close 3rd.

Today’s race was run on a 9.25-mile course off the beautiful Orange Beach coastline in rough seas of 5-8 feet and moderate winds, limiting speeds to 110mph.  Paul Nemschoff, driver, said “The Tommy Bahama Team had the boat perfectly prepared and that allowed us to run hard from the green flag to the checkered flag.  It was a sprint though, we often found ourselves flying high after launching off the big waves.  This victory is really a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Team and everyone who is a part of our effort.”  They were 2nd at the first turn and battled with Bacardi for the lead for 3 laps before taking the lead for good.  It was close all the way with Bacardi and Rum Jumbie trading positions and often not more than seconds behind Tommy Bahama.  Mark Nemschoff, who handles the throttles and trim added, “We’ve had a number of issues to overcome after running a limited schedule this year and experiencing various mechanical problems.  I’m very proud of our accomplishments and thank our entire Team.  I wanted to retire on a high note and this race was one of the best.”

The Tommy Bahama boat is a 40ft Marine Technology (MTI) built by famed European and World Champion Randy Scism.  The fiberglass hull was laid up in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  Twin 775hp Sterling Performance engines from Milford, Michigan, power the boat through ZF Trimax drives from Italy.  Nemschoff crew for this event included David Place and Frank Winstead from Titusville, Florida, and Roger Crump from St. Louis, Missouri.  Charlie Bass and Rod Gomez from Ft. Lauderdale, and KC Nemschoff, Sheboygan, flew as the Team’s helicopter rescue crew.
