Tommy Bahama Flies in the Key West APBA-Offshore Worlds

Fresh off their win in the season finally in St. Petersburg earlier this month, the Nemschoff Sports / TOMMY BAHAMA Offshore Team went out strong to conquer the 11 boat field for the 2 race series to determine the APBA-Offshore World Champion. In 2-4 ft. seas stirred by hurricane Michelle, today's race started with a bang as 'Mr. Solo' and TOMMY BAHAMA collided just after the start as each went for the same piece of water. Later on the first lap TOMMY BAHAMA broke its tunnel trim flap as it landed on a big wave, causing extra drag in the water holding the Nemschoffs back in the pack for much of the race. After three different yellow flag incidents involving overturned boats, the trim flap broke free and on the last restart the top five boats sprinted to the finish. TOMMY BAHAMA gained speed and positions and finished a strong 3rd, 14 seconds behind the winner, 'Spirit of Puerto Rico', and 6 seconds behind 2nd place 'Drambuie on Ice'. Paul Nemschoff, driver, said, "I'm pleased with the result considering the problems we had. We are in position to challenge for the title, and we will be at our best for race #2". Mark Nemschoff, throttleman, added, "our Team did spectacular work preparing TOMMY BAHAMA. We've overcome a lot this year and we will prevail".

Race #2 will be run on November 18th due to the hurricane evacuation which forced postponement of the race scheduled for November 4th.

This is the final event of the season for the APBA-Offshore Pro Series. APBA-Offshore is the premier Offshore sanctioning organization in the US, with more than 25 races and 84 hours of original TV programming aired on Fox-Speedvision
