TOMMY BAHAMA DOMINATES CLEVELAND GRAND PRIX

Tommy Bahama Offshore / Nemschoff Sports scored two major victories at the Cleveland Grand Prix in Lake Erie this past weekend. On Friday the Team set a new ‘kilo’ speed record with an average speed of 136.975 mph. This breaks the record of 132.258 they set a few weeks back in Savannah. Kilo is short for kilometer, which is the measured distance that the speed is timed for two runs in opposite directions, and then those two times are averaged. This insures accuracy and accounts for wind and current.

On Sunday, Mark and Paul Nemschoff guided TOMMY BAHAMA to a clear victory leading from start to finish averaging 109 mph for the 100-mile race. The main straightaway along the lakeshore and Burke Lakefront Airport was 4 miles long and the Team registered speeds over 130 mph. Paul Nemschoff, driver, said “The Tommy Bahama Team had the boat perfectly prepared and that allowed us to make it look easy. This victory is really a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Team and everyone who is a part of our effort.” They had the lead at the first turn and added to it on every lap. Mark Nemschoff who handles the throttles and trim added, “We’ve had a number of issues to overcome including a 300lb weight penalty intended to equalize competition, but this Team is deep enough and strong enough to run with the best no matter what obstacles are in our path. I’m very proud of our accomplishments and thank Tommy Bahama and all our Team.” With this the second win in a row, Tommy Bahama is considered the hottest Team on the circuit at this point in the season.

The Cleveland Grand Prix featured 75 race boats in 9 different classes on the APBA Offshore National Pro Series circuit. With this win by Tommy Bahama, the National Championship points race has tightened. Two events, Corpus Christi and Grand Bahama remain on the schedule, and then the tour goes to Key West for the World Championships.
